Thank you to Crazy Girl for the awesome recordings...as promised you will receive a tardy pass on Monday :)

Have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs. Pratt

the joint is jumpin' mixed jazz

Let's be real. There are A LOT of recordings of this piece (arr Mark A. Brymer) that I'm not going to post. I thought about it. I thought, well maybe they could just hear how the piece went if they wanted to at home, but I decided against it. Honestly, I never found a recording on youtube that I wanted you to model. If you can find one GREAT, please do. One free tardy pass. I just saw one too many sequins and am calling it a night.

Chamber Recording: Ubi Caritas

Hello Chamber,
Not going to lie...this will challenge us but you will ROCK it out. Thinking about showing y'all off at contests with this bad boy. What do you think? Like this recording? Are you watching the whole thing? You know I downloaded this program that lets me know how many times you watch it and if you watch the entire video. No, totally jk, but I should create one...off to make my billions...

Grand Chorus recording: The Storm is passing over

Hey grand chorus,
We are closing with this amazing number. I love the blend and tone quality of this recording. A bit fast for me, but I think it's a great representation. Don't get too fast to their temp; we will go slower. What do you think? Leave your comments...I really will read them :)

Mrs. Pratt

Womens Jazz Embraceable you Recording

Hey ladies,
This is the only women's choir recording I could find on youtube, did you find anymore? What do you think? I love this song!

Mrs. Pratt

mixed jazz recording of Tango To Evora

So what do you think? We are doing this piece; I love it and I hope you do too. I think the singing is amazing in this video. I hope I don't offend anyone out there but I don't really like the movement and the shoulder to shoulder standing...hope you're not disappointed we will not be doing this. Leave comments and let me know what you think!

women's jazz And So it Goes Recording

Okay ladies,
How do I say this? Good examples of the harmony in this recording and excellent quality for a middle school choir. We will take more liberties in tempo, etc. What do you think? Have you ever heard the real Billy Joel "And So it goes?" NO? Okay, here you go.

Mrs. Pratt :)

women's jazz route 66

Recording Fail: I can't find a good SSA recording of "Route 66" Arr: Roger Emmerson. Can you? Tardy pass if you find it first...

help your teacher out.

Mrs. Pratt

so... who's the new girl?

As you may have noticed, I am not Mrs. Clark. (gasp!) Although I do adore Mrs. Clark and learned quite a bit from her, I am all together a different person that hopefully you will grow to love. Here is the scoop...

1. Who are you?

I am Mrs. Pratt. I grew up here and graduated from BHS.
Here I am way  back in the day at BHS. Wow, bangs.
Here I am before one of the many amazing choir concerts I was so lucky to be in!

 2. Okay, so what else? After high school, I attended the best school ever in America and perhaps the world, The University of Mississippi (okay, maybe I'm a bit loyal to my school...hotty toddy) where I majored in music and participated in the choral department, vocal studio, and Ole Miss Opera Theatere.

Mrs. Pratt with the Eric Whitacre!

The Ole Miss Concert Singers
Performing Mozart's "Die Zauberflote" (sorry about the lack of accent marks, does anyone know how to add them in blogger? Thanks!) with the Ole Miss Opera Theater.

3. Go on...
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Music and was awarded an amazing assistantship and decided to stay and pursue a Masters Degree. While at Ole Miss I studied conducting with Dr. Donald Trott and voice with Mrs. Nancy Maria Balach.

After graduation I began teaching in Mississippi before moving back to Nashville. For the past few years I have worked with Metro Nashville Public Schools.
Part of our staff after a run/walk for charity last year.

4. What kind of music do you like? Literally all kinds. I think it is important for students to learn correct vocal technique and some music lends itself to teaching the basics more than others, however, I think it is vital that students learn a large repertoire of music from all different genres, backgrounds, time periods, etc!

5. Do you do anything else other than teach? No. I live in a closet at school, ha. Yes, I am extremely close to my wonderful family and husband. I am also in a book club, enjoy travelling, sing in my church choir, support a pretty steady coffee addiction, frequent yoga, and am currently attempting to train for a half marathon in October.

Overall: I could not be more excited about being your new choir director. I promise to work very hard this year and will attempt to create some wonderful music with you! If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to e-mail or leave a comment!

Thanks,
Mrs. Pratt

Camerata Recording Carol of the Bells

You have more songs coming, just finding recordings :)
Do you like this recording?

Love,

Mrs. Pratt

Hello Parents

Hello Parents! I am so excited to be the choir director at Brentwood High School. I encourage you to check the choir website and this blog often because I believe communication is the key for success in our school and choral program. Periodically during the year I will need assistance with ticket sales, concert preparation, field trips, uniform measurements, etc. If you are able to volunteer and would like to be updated on upcoming opportunities, please send me your name, child's name, e-mail address, and telephone number. I realize everyone's work and home life is different but even taking up tickets before a concert or bringing snacks to a late rehearsal can make all the difference in the world! Thank you for all you do and I am really looking forward to a wonderful year. Please feel free to contact me at anytime through e-mail or leave a comment.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pratt

Welcome!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Pratt and I am so excited about being the new choir director at BHS! As an alumnae and former choir member of Brentwood, I am so excited about returning and directing this amazing choir. This year will be a lot of hard work, dedication, and hopefully extremely rewarding. This group is truly amazing and I plan on showing off these singers in concerts, competitions, community events and more. I plan on using this blog to update everyone on upcoming events, adding youtube videos that I think are correct examples of pieces we are learning, and anything else I think you or your family should know! I hope everyone had a really relaxing summer and is ready to hit the ground running!
